Immortality Plague 2018
Oil on canvas
This image is made up of two paintings spliced together, the cat side (Immortality) and the opossum side (Plague). I made the opossum part first and decided to use my lost cat as the subject of a second part.
Interpretation is obviously subjective, but it's a comment on immortality through death. Death is in its own way a sort of immortality because our bodies become part of everything else to continue an endless cycle. It also shows the juxtaposition of pet vs roadkill, normalized death vs glorified death even though we all end up the same.
